In 2011 Jim joined Hemminger Schmid as an associate. His practice focuses on family law, personal injury claims, and civil litigation. Prior to joining Hemminger Schmid, Jim articled at the Toronto office of one of Canada's leading national law firms where he was exposed to a broad range of complex legal issues. He also spent a summer during law school working at the Ontario Securities Commission.

Jim attained his law degree at the University of Victoria. Prior to studying law, he earned both a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in philosophy from McMaster University. As part of his graduate program, he spent a year studying abroad at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

Although he is originally from Ontario, Jim has visited family on Vancouver Island regularly since he was a child and has long considered it to be a second home. He is very excited to live and practice law in Victoria and looks forward to assisting clients with their legal matters.
