Michael Jakeman, Lawyer
Michael Jakeman received a Bachelors degree in biological sciences from the University of Alberta in 2002. He later received his Law degree from the University of Victoria in 2005. He became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia in 2006 and that same year a member of the Law Society of Alberta. Mr. Jakeman chose an entrepreneurial route and moved to the boomtown of Fort McMurray , Alberta to create the partnership of Vinni and Jakeman, with this he was featured in Canadian Associates Magazine as fewer young lawyers are drawn to small town practice. While in Fort McMurray Mr. Jakeman was President for the Fort McMurray Bar Association. Mr. Jakeman now lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia with Hemminger Schmid and continues to practice law throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
Mr. Jakeman has experience with Real Estate Law and Corporate Commercial Law and now works as a trial lawyer in the areas of Criminal Defence, Family and Civil Litigation, Personal Injury and ICBC Claims.
Mr. Jakeman was reared in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and to this day enjoys rugged outdoor adventure of all pursuits. Community participation is also a central focus for him as it has provided the motivation for his career in defending the liberties and rights of individuals and organizations. Mr. Jakeman is interested in business, politics, current events, health and food practices and work to support strong families. Prior to the practice of law Mr. Jakeman had opportunities to work with big industry including a Coal Mine, a Pulp Mill and the Oil Sands of Fort McMurray. He has had experience teaching indoor climbing, volunteering with adult persons with disabilities at L'Arche homes, managing a political campaign and racing mountain bikes.
