About the Bursary

The purpose of the Hemminger Schmid Bursary for Higher Education is to help bright and aspiring individuals discover and achieve their life goals.

We are very pleased to announce our 2011 recipient, Ms. Hilary Marks!

Hilary is currently studying at Camosun College. She plans to transfer to the University of Victoria to obtain her degree in social work. Through Bridges for Women, Hemminger Schmid is providing full funding for Hilary's tuition and books.

The entire team at Hemminger Schmid would like to congratulate Hilary on her outstanding and inspirational achievements thus far. We wish her clarity, focus and passion as she pursues her studies. Woot woot!!

What Hilary says:

My life took an interesting turn when I walked into Bridges For Women Society with the intention to 'pay it forward'. Having no idea how, paying it forward was beyond my mental realm of thought. Bridges scooped me up to be a part of the Mentoring Program, as there were no volunteering positions available. I could have no idea what exciting event was about to present itself. My mentor was/is Val Hemminger of Hemminger Schmid Lawyers and Mediators. I have been blessed with the opportunity to fulfill my passion and get a Bachelor of Social Work Degree. I planted the seeds at the University of Guelph in the early 1980's. I am so honoured and unbelievably grateful for this gift of education, empowerment and the road to self sufficiency.
