Val Hemminger, Lawyer and Mediator
Val Hemminger was born in Toronto, Ontario. She was raised in the Maple Ridge area and spent her teen years in 100 Mile House.
Val studied at the University of Victoria where she graduated with an honours B.A. in 1991. She went to York University and obtained her M.A. in 1992.
Val went on to law school at the University of Ottawa for her first year. She then transferred to the University of Victoria for her final two years of law school. A practicing lawyer since 1996, Val brings with years of knowledge and expertise in multiple areas of law, and is the guiding force and vision behind this firm.
Val’s start in the legal world was with her articles at the firm of Cox, Taylor, where she worked there for 4 l/2 years. Since 2000 Val has practiced in a variety of legal environments that eventually lead her to opening Hemminger Schmid with her colleague and law school classmate, David Marcus Schmid.
Val, through her combination of social conscience and legal expertise, is able to provide clients with excellent advice and service, both inside and outside the courtroom. The fact that it is a law and mediation firm means that while the needs of the client are forefront, the importance of arriving at consensual and mutually-beneficial outcomes is also emphasized. Moreover, by employing a variety of strategies for dispute resolution, including collaboration, mediation, and case conferencing, often the financial and emotional costs to both the client and their family are significantly reduced.
Aside from her career, Val enjoys spending time with her family. She is married to Jameson and they have an adorable daughter named Davey. Val also has two step-daughters named Cimon and Jewel. Val’s blended family keeps her home life very interesting and challenging. Val also likes to spend a great deal of time with her Jack Russell terrier named Dogger, and is deeply committed to the practice of "HOT" Bikram Yoga. The newest member to her family is a Siamese kitten named Skippy Jon Jones.
